When Congress denied the renewal of the broadcasting franchise of the Kapamilya network, a lot of their shows bid goodbye. Instead of jumping to rival networks, most of the stars of ABS-CBN either created or focused on their digital platforms to continue connecting with their fans in the fear that they may be forgotten easily.
Jose Mari Viceral or more popularly known as Vice Ganda is the most bankable star of the Kapamilya network. Her shows, Showtime and Gandang Gabi Vice, are the most-watched TV shows in daytime and Sunday nights. Her movies are instant blockbusters and she’s an in-demand endorser. She already conquered television, movies, and advertising, now Vice Ganda is ready to rule a new world and will try to pull an Oprah Winfrey.
That said, the “Unkabogable Star” Vice Ganda decided to launch her digital network on July 24 but was forced to postpone the launch of her own digital media platform, Vice Ganda Network, after the site crashed on the day it was supposed to be up.
The all-new Vice Ganda Network will be exclusively accessed through its official website, www.viceganda.com.ph.
The digital network will feature Vice News, Vice Beauty tips, and subscribers will also get a chance to win some Vice giveaways through joining the fun Vice Games. But the most awaited launch in the network is its online show “Gabing Gabi na Vice” with Angel Locsin and Bea Alonzo as guests in her show’s first episode.
Vice Ganda revealed that she is now more free to express herself in the digital platform with fewer restrictions, unlike in television. Vice Ganda was among the celebrities the public would mock the deafening silence during the struggles of ABS-CBN in the grueling congressional hearings tackling supposed violations of its franchise.
People will remember that she also challenged Pastor Quiboloy, a close friend of President Duterte, to stop the airing of Ang Probinsyano and some netizens claim that the closure of ABS-CBN was karma for her arrogance. Some netizens also fault her for normalizing the populist politics of the current administration by inviting rabidly pro-administration personalities to her shows.
Though she did not participate in any protest to urge lawmakers to give her home network renewal of the franchise, at least for the sake of its 11,000 workers, she had been posting her support to ABS-CBN and her colleagues on Instagram and social media accounts.
On the day Congress voted not to renew the franchise, she tweeted. “Sa pagpapasara ng ABS CBN mawawalan ng malaking pagkakakitaan ang mga Lopez. Pero sigurado akong di sila maghihirap. Napakayaman na nila para maghirap. Ang totoong magdudusa dito ay ang mga pangkarinawang manggagawa na nawalan ng trabaho. Sila ang maghihirap.”
According to Vice Ganda, she aims to help her Kapamilya colleagues who lost their jobs upon closure of ABS-CBN.
The superstar comedian also hoped to give a platform to his fellow stand-up comedians who likewise lost their livelihood during the lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic. [PxxxT]
“Dito lahat ang kailangan namin unahin i-accommodate ay ‘yung mga taga-ABS-CBN na wala munang pinagkakakitaan ngayon. Kailangan ko buksan itong proyektong ito para makapag-extend ng help sa kanila” – Vice Ganda
The Vice Ganda Network is a collaboration with Viva entertainment and with the blessing and support of ABS-CBN.
